Mother Sews Best

πŸͺ‘ The Common Thread Issue 15

Hey Reader!

I've been feeling a little off this week. With the announcements of Joann Fabric closing and Tiktok being banned it's a weird time for a sewing content creator. Who knows if either of those things will even happen... I'll believe it when I see it. How do you feel about these events?

On a happier note how about a list of some things I've been loving lately?

πŸ«– Hot tea (caffine has been making my anxiety soo badπŸ˜–)

πŸ“” Bullet Journaling I used to do this back in 2018-2020, but I've been getting back into it and it's a creative outlet I really love that also helps me be more productive!

πŸ‹οΈβ€β™€οΈ Lifting weights (never thought I'd say this!!!)

🐴 My childhood rocking horse- we pulled it out of the attic and my little two have been having so much fun with it!

πŸ›’ Thrifting- I've always loved this... but lately I've had some good finds! Here's a little vlog I did of my last thrifting trip

πŸ₯£ Butternut Squash and chicken soup- I can't explain it, but I've been CRAVING this soup lately (and no, I'm not pregnant🀣). I don't really have a recipe, I just chop up a butternut squash and put it in my instant pot, top with a few chicken breasts, seasonings and some chicken broth and set it for 9 minutes. Then I shred my chicken and blend up the squash and mix it all together. It might not look pretty, but it's divine.

Doll Pajamas

by Ocean Code

I made this adorable pajama onesie for my daughter's doll Costco (yes like the store...it's her favorite place πŸ˜…). I love this pattern because 1. it fits any 11 or 12 inch soft body doll and 2. it comes in a bundle, so you get a bunch of doll clothes options too!

Fabric Wholesale Direct

With the latest news of Joann Fabrics shutting down, I thought I'd suggest an alternative for those looking for an inexpensive fabric shop option with a wide range of fabric choices. I always want to support small business fabric shops first, but FWD is a perfect place to start if you've never shopped fabric online before. They have great customer service, return policies AND you get buy samples of the fabric if you're hesitant to make the leap to online fabric shopping.

How to easily unpick serger threads

Sergers can be such a game changer for your sewing journey. They allow you to prevent your fabric from fraying and give your projected a polished, finished look. The downside, there are SO many threads and if you accidentally make a mistake, it is a seam ripping nightmare. Well, it was, until I found this fun trick that makes it SO much easier to pick out unwanted serger threads.

Hannah

Hannah recently joined the Sewing Society after finishing the Mother Sews Best course this fall. I have loved watching her progress through the course. Her biggest takeaway was watching her confidence grow:

"Sewing me realize I can still learn new skills. Amelia made the steps so simple that even if I didn't get right the first time, I know how to make it right the next time."

-Hannah

We have an exciting workshop in the works to help you figure out your path to learn how to sew! Keep your eyes out for details coming soon!

Business Lift Off Week- My friend Colleen is hosting this free live coaching for anyone wanting to create an online business! It starts January 27th!
