Mother Sews Best

🪡 The Common Thread Issue 16

Hey Reader!

I know I live in South Carolina and I'm an absolute whimp, but I'm SO DONE with the cold!!! I wasn't built for this. I was made to drink mojitos under a palm tree. And if i see one more flake of snow I may cry (it's only snowed once here, like I said, I'm a baby.) Please don't come for me my northern and Canadian friends.😅 Can we all just agree this sucks??

Ok, I'm done whining...

Behind the scenes I've been working my tushie off getting ready to host a free workshop just for you!! It's called So Long Sew-Verwhelm and it's going to be soooo good. This is for you if you've felt overwhelmed by everything there is to learn about sewing. Maybe you got a sewing machine for Christmas that you are scared to touch, or you have one in the top of your closet that makes you feel guilty everytime you see it. Either way in this workshop I'm going to teach you a roadmap that will walk you from the basics like how to thread your machine, through how to use your sewing skills to make an income!

It's going to be so good and I hope you can make it! You can read all about it and sign up here or by clicking the image below!

The Bergen Coat

by Mood Fabrics

Free pattern alert!

This oversized peacoat is Mood Fabric's newest FREE sewing pattern. It has a wide range of sizes (xxs-4xl) and is best suited for advanced sewists. This looks like the perfect coat for the too warm for the big coat, but too cold for the spring coat kind of weather!

Sallie Tomato

This shop has some of my favorite notions! They have the CUTEST webbing, zipper and hardware for bags and accessories. Plus they also carry fabric, patterns and more. It's a one stop shop and I can't get enough!

Top 5 beginner friendly projects

One of the best ways to start learning is to dive in with a beginner friendly project to help boost your confidence. Here are my top five favorite beginner projects to get you started:

  • Tote Bag
  • Crib Sheet
  • I Spy Bag
  • Bandana Bib
  • Zipper Pouch

These projects are simple, practical, and a great way to build your skills. Have you tried any of them yet? Or is there one you’re excited to dive into? Let me know—I’d love to hear about your sewing adventures!
