Mother Sews Best

🪡 The Common Thread No. 33

Hey Reader!

Happy New Year sewing friends!! I'm so excited about everything that is coming for Mother Sews Best this year and am so pumped to tell you about all of it!!

Can we talk about something that I feel like most people avoid? That's what to do when you lose your "sewjo". That's what many sewist call it when you just feel uninspired and you avoid sewing. To be totally honest I feel like I'm coming out of a season like that. It can be really discouraging and you may even wonder if you are done sewing for good. Sometimes all you need to do it just step away for a few weeks. Something tells me you'll see something on a rack somewhere and think "oh I could make that" in just a short while. ;) It's ok to take a break, sometimes our creative brains just need to rest!

If you want to get that excitement back about sewing but you just aren't feeling it, try sewing something you don't normally make! If you usually make clothes, try making a bag or venture into quilting! If you always sew with a machine, try handstitching!

Lately I've picked up English Paper Piecing and it's ignited a completely new love of sewing in me, even though it's nothing like what I normally sew. Sewing with my hands has made me slow down, and I also love that I can carry it around with me when I'm out and about!

The Cotswold Meadow Quilt Block of the Month

By Alice Caroline

Since I’ve been on an English Paper Piecing kick lately, I have been obsessed with this club. The Cotswold Meadow Quilt Block of the Month Club is a year-long EPP project by Alice Caroline. Each month you receive a curated box with Liberty fabrics and instructions to make a new hand-sewn block, so you can focus on stitching instead of planning. Mine is supposed to come in tomorrow and I'm SO EXCITED to get into it!!!

The final quilt is a true heirloom, beautiful quilt blocks, a scalloped edge, and an incredible mix of Liberty prints that all come together over the year.

Bonnie Christine Color Master Half Yard Bundle

By Art Gallery

Half yard bundles are the PERFECT addition to your fabric collection. They are beautifully coordinated, big enough to complete a lot of fun accessories and projects (perfect for an EPP project...😉). Bonnie Christine's patterns are one of my favorites, check out this Color Master Half Yard Bundle from Hawthorne Supply Co

Digital sewing patterns are a GREAT way to practice and refine your sewing skills! The best part is you only need a printer and the supplies outlined by the pattern. You can learn so much from following the directions and trying out a pattern that has new skills you haven't tackled before. Don't know where to start? First, you'll want to learn how to assemble a PDF pattern!

Fabric Glue Pens

By Sewline

These fabric glue pens have quickly become one of those how did I ever sew without this? tools. The pen-style dispenser makes it easy to apply just a tiny amount of high quality glue to hold fabric exactly where you want it, no pins needed. Plus, it’s especially helpful for fiddly spots, holding zippers in place, curves, bindings, and English Paper Piecing! I'm officially obsessed and will never sew without it!

Madeleine

The Mother Sews Best Course is lifetime access, and the reason is so you can access the course material again and again, like Madeleine did over a year later when she was making a pair of pants for her daughter's birthday. We are so honored to be there to support students time and time again as they grow as a sewist

We have an exciting free workshop coming up on January 28th! The So Long Sewverwhelm Workshop will walk you through a clear, confidence-boosting roadmap for learning to sew, so you know exactly what to focus on next without feeling overwhelmed. Click here to save your spot and join us!
