Hey Reader! It's the first day of Fall (even though it's supposed to be 85° here in South Carolina today)! I'm a warm weather girl through and through, but I'm getting excited to start sewing some cold weather items! What's your favorite season to sew for? I'm also working super hard on something Halloween related that will be launching later this week (make sure you open the next newsletter😉). It's going to be SO fun! The Rosalie Crossbody Bag By Clover and Violet We have been working on...

My very first sewing project 🥹 + A free pattern!

Hey Reader! I remember being around 5 years old and wanting to make something for my sisters birthday. I went into my baby sisters changing table and grabbed the only fabric I could think of- a flat cloth diaper. You know the kind- the ones that our moms pinned on us with saftey pins the size of forks. Still not sure how those kept anything in 💩... But I found a needle and bright red thread and got to stitching Happy Birthday and 3 big balloons. My stitches were each about an inch long, and...

Hey Reader! Lately, I’ve been pouring my heart into something I’m really excited about. It’s called Sewing Week, and it’s a 6-day online workshop starting on May 11th where we’ll be sewing a beautiful knit dress together using the sewing machine you already have. If knit fabric has ever made you nervous or you’ve thought you needed a fancy serger to get started, I promise this will change the way you think about sewing knits! During the week we will be sewing the Margo dress from one of my...

Hey Reader! I'm writing this from the passenger seat. We're on the way home from Washington DC where we spent spring break with our oldest 3 kids. It was amazing, but OH MY GOODNESS I'm tired. I feel like we walked at least 25 miles over 3 days. I'm always so inspired going to new places, seeing the different scenery and architecture. I think my favorite thing we saw was all the dresses that the first ladies wore to the inaugural ball- each one was SO beautiful and I love thinking through the...

Hey Reader! I spent last week at a Mastermind in Austin Texas and it was life changing! I got to meet 30 female entrepreneurs that I've been getting to know online over the past few months, but being able to meet and talk in person was so amazing. I walked away with SO many ideas of how to make Mother Sews Best even better and am so excited to keep helping YOU! Our surprise guest speaker was Amy Porterfield!🤯 I fan girled just a little. So much love for these ladies! Had dinner on night one...

Hey Reader! Last week, I had my first public speaking event at the Alt Summit, teaching all about Instagram Reels. It was SO amazing, and honestly, I loved it—it was such a rush! Getting serious about Instagram is how I 20x'd my business in just one year. It completely changed my business and my life! I'm excited to announce that I'm opening 12 spots for a 6-week group coaching intensive to help you grow your business using Instagram. If you are a creative business owner, I'd love to have you...

What to do now that Joanns is closing 😢

Hey Reader! So let's talk about the elephant in the room... Joann Fabric is closing. 😢 I'm pretty bummed about it. Mainly because of the convenience of being able to run in and grab a spool of thread or bias tape, but mainly because it means many beginners won't have a way to feel what different fabric types are like before ordering online. BUT I have two things that are really going to help you. Number one- I recommend ordering a pack of fabric swatches so you can see what different types of...

Hey Reader! The So Long Sew-Verhelm workshops over the last few weeks were so amazing. After the workshops I welcomed in over 200 students into the Mother Sews Best course! I'm so excited for these women to fall in love with sewing like I did! Whether you bought the course or not, I just want to say thank you! Thank you for being here and wanting to learn from me. It's truly one of the greatest honors in my life! A little peek behind the camera during a workshop! Anise Cocoon Sweatshirt Dress...

Hey Reader! I know I live in South Carolina and I'm an absolute whimp, but I'm SO DONE with the cold!!! I wasn't built for this. I was made to drink mojitos under a palm tree. And if i see one more flake of snow I may cry (it's only snowed once here, like I said, I'm a baby.) Please don't come for me my northern and Canadian friends.😅 Can we all just agree this sucks?? Ok, I'm done whining... Behind the scenes I've been working my tushie off getting ready to host a free workshop just for...

🪡 The Common Thread Issue 15

Hey Reader! I've been feeling a little off this week. With the announcements of Joann Fabric closing and Tiktok being banned it's a weird time for a sewing content creator. Who knows if either of those things will even happen... I'll believe it when I see it. How do you feel about these events? On a happier note how about a list of some things I've been loving lately? 🫖 Hot tea (caffine has been making my anxiety soo bad😖) 📔 Bullet Journaling I used to do this back in 2018-2020, but I've been...
